Growing up as an athlete since the young age of 4, Michelle Roots has always had a solid interest in fitness and living a healthy lifestyle. Growing up she participated in soccer, basketball, field hockey, volleyball, cross country, and track and field; going on to play soccer and basketball at an elite level. Her journey to becoming a fitness specialist began after taking her first kinesiology class in college, which sprouted an interest in learning more about conditioning and rehabilitating the human body. Her interest in taking her basketball career and education to a higher level lead her to the University of Winnipeg to play for the Lady Wesmen and pursue a Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology and Applied Health, majoring in Athletic Therapy. She headed east after attending Kwantlen University College for two years and while playing on the basketball team she was awarded MVP honours both of those years.
Through her education she was provided with multiple opportunities to work with athletes in numerous sports under the supervision of notarized professionals in the athletic therapy and strength and conditioning field. These opportunities provided the foundation for the experience and knowledge she gained and continues to gain in the field of health and fitness. After graduating from the University of Winnipeg, Michelle returned to BC to begin her career in the ever growing fitness industry here in Vancouver. She earned the credentials of Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association in April of 2007, further establishing herself as a knowledgeable professional personal trainer in the fitness industry.
CORE Conditioning was created in September of 2007 and since has continued to grow and validate itself as a imminent force in the fitness community. Since establishing CORE Conditioning in 2007, Michelle continues to train many well known professional athletes, college level athletes and teams from a number of sports, as well as recreational level teams with ages ranging from youth to adult. Michelle has been a familiar face in the local media scene, as she has had many articles in the Vancouver Sun and other local newspapers for topics related to Fitness. Michelle also has also been seen on the Global Morning News “Fit Tips” in 2008 and 2009, providing the province of BC with exercises and techniques to help promote fitness to morning viewers.
Michelle Roots has also become a recommended name by local doctor’s and physiotherapists as a personal trainer for clients requiring injury specific active rehabilitation. Dealing with clients injured in car accidents, through sports, or through forces placed on the body during everyday life, Michelle provides clients with injury specific rehabilitation techniques to get them back to work, play, and leisure activities as soon as possible. Past clientele include Global BC new reporters, Universal recording artists The Veer Union, multiple NHL athletes, AHL and WHL hockey athletes, elite college athletes, college, high school, and community level sports teams, as well as many everyday businessmen and women, housewives, and weekend warriors with a variety of personal fitness goals.
Michelle continues to feed her athletic background by playing in competitive basketball and soccer leagues around the lower mainland and keeps her fitness level in top shape by using herself as a test subject to master new techniques and exercises she continues to seek out. Keeping up with new research through attending numerous fitness conferences in Canada and the United States, networking with other professionals in the industry, attending courses, and studying to earn more credentials, help her provide clientele with the most up to date and innovative exercise techniques in fitness today.
Michelle is dedicated to sharing her wealth of knowledge and contagious love for fitness with all of her clients and the people who surround her. In 2014 she found a home for CORE Conditioning in Cloverdale, BC in order to help more people change their lives and find a love for living a fit and healthy lifestyle. Michelle expanded the CORE Conditioning team by adding more trainers to help offer more services to the CORE Conditioning soldiers such as large and small group classes.
