With the long weekend only days away, many of us will enjoy the extra time with our friends and families eating and relaxing which is all a part of healthy balance, so go ahead and enjoy! But after three or even four days off, the key to getting back on track is to do it right away.

Below are tips to getting back to a healthy lifestyle after a long weekend or break!

1-Put The Scale Away

Do not let your morbid curiosity get the best of you to check “damage” by stepping on a scale! This number will not be a true representation of where you are at physically and if the number is not what you were hoping for, your intentions to get back on track can be overshadowed with negative emotions. Instead focus on how you feel and how your clothes fit and know that the sooner you get back to your healthy living plan, the sooner you will feel your absolute best!

2-Get Back To Routine ASAP After a Long Weekend

Taking a break is key to optimal health, but it is imperative that you get back to routine immediately because the longer you are away, the easier it is to come up with excuses to stay away from it all. Enjoy the break but schedule your return to your workouts and do not skip it!

3-Stay Hydrated

What? Does it sound like we are broken record with the concept of hydration? It is because we are on repeat, hydration is key to keeping energy levels up and to avoiding making bad decisions in the kitchen. If you are indulging with your meals and snacks, drinking water will help to flush out the excess and help beat the bloat.

4-Rest Up

As you wind up your long weekend, make sure to get plenty of rest on the night before you are getting back to your routine. Getting enough sleep will give you the energy to get through your workout (because the first one back is always a challenge). As well, when you do not have to fight fatigue, you will find avoiding food temptations far easier.  Read more about the importance of sleep and fat loss HERE.

5-Stay Active Even When You Are Not Working Out

The gym may be closed, but that does not mean you have to glue yourself to couch or lawn chair and call it done! Take a walk with your family, play a game of soccer (or baseball or basketball…or whatever you are into)…every little bit of activity adds up so get to it!

6-Don’t Beat Yourself Up Over Long Weekend Fun

You deserve a break! A few days to enjoy some extra time and some extra calories is all a part of healthy balance and living your best life!
